Getting ready to go!

Why Ecuador?

Mark and I have talked for years about living in another country. It has been a long term goal for both of us. Neither of us took a "gap year" or had a semester abroad. So now is our chance. Our kids are out of the house and living their lives and we have bit of freedom. We are lucky that Mark is between jobs and that I have a sabbatical. We don't have to be anywhere to do our work.

I will complete my sabbatical projects in Ecuador and Mark will volunteer, run, and explore his career opportunities through the internet. We will miss all of our friends and family, but want to experience a living in a different culture.

Our Preparations

Mark and I have just finished up a whirlwind summer of travel and fun. Our empty nest is filling up with our nephew Sean and ( Mark's sister's son) and Megan. A professional runner who needed a place to stay. Soon Jamie and Elizabeth will join them to take care of our house and our dog, Crisco.

I have cleaned out a few closets to allow space for our guests, and consequently have clothes all over! One of my goals is to determine what I will need in Ecuador and what can stay here. If anyone has suggestions, let me know.

We have heard from many people who are living in Ecuador or have lived in Ecuador. Thanks to all of you who have helped make our transition a bit easier.

One more trip to Colorado for to see Jenna and enjoy CU's parents' weekend and then just a few short weeks until we are on our plane to Ecuador. Of course, Mark will work in an OSU football game before we go. It just isn't fall without the Buckeyes!
